The Metropolitan Black Police Association (MetBPA) were very surprised to hear the verdict given on 08.02.2010 regarding the case of Commander Ali Dizaei. It is imperative that we recognise and respect the decision of the Jury - no one should be above the law.
Whilst this has had a negative impact on both the MetBPA and Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), the Association must not be distracted from its goal of race equality. The MetBPA will continue to work with colleagues both within the MPS, MPA and our external partners/stakeholders to progress and tackle the issues of racism. We shall continue to challenge race discrimination and with colleagues, ensure that race equality is firmly embedded within the culture of the Metropolitan Police Service.
We will continue to highlight and propose recommendations to resolve the issues of race disproportionality in regard to career progression, disproportionate disciplinary action against black personnel, disproportionate outcomes of Stop and Search and the collection of DNA.
The MetBPA are aware of the comments of a past Chair and whilst we do not support his views, he is entitled to his opinion. There will be those who will seize the opportunity to discredit the MetBPA and the issues of race equality. We will refute and repel any such challenge. The MetBPA will continue to champion the cause of race equality.
